My Calling: God's Calling on My Life

Blog Post

For the longest time in my life, I have known that my calling in life is in ministry. Specifically, I know that I have wanted to work with children and eventually become a children’s pastor. I have been told that I am a great teacher and when I am speaking in front of the kids that I am so comfortable up there. The reason that I want to work in children’s ministry is because I want every child that I come in contact with to know Christ. From there those kids will be able reach out to their family for Christ if there are those in the family that aren’t Christians. Even those families that are actually strong in their faith then they can come together and grow closer to each other and to Christ. Another one of the gifts that I have is that of exhortation, which is coming along side of someone with words of encouragement, comfort, consolation, and counsel to help them be all that God wants them to be. Besides working with kids I just love helping other people and it brings me joy when I can be there for someone and make an impact in their lives. People tells me that I always put others before myself and that really is a goal that I have because we as Christians are called to show God’s love to everyone around us. In Philippians, Paul is talking to us about imitating Christ and have the same mindset as Him. Philippians 2:3-4 according to the NET Bible says, “Instead of being motivated by self-ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well.”

So besides my vocational calling that I told you about, I think my actual life calling is simply to love those around me and whatever that looks like. Whether that be only through my ministry and the children and families that I am working with now. It also could be reaching out to those around me and continuing to love on those that are currently around me or come in paths with in my everyday life. I also have a dream that my future family will be able to reach out into the community and love those around them. All of us will be a light to those around us and they will see us knowing that there is something different about us then from there we can tell those that do not know about Christ. My calling in life is to be a shining light for Christ. Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world and in verse 16 of Matthew chapter 5, Jesus says, according to the Weymouth New Testament, “Just so let your light shine before all men, in order that they may see your holy lives and may give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.”

The Point/Summary

The calling for my life overall is not just to children’s ministry, but also to be a light to all of those around me and show them the love of Christ and this does not only pertain to me, but to every Christian.
